Scoil Rince Ni Chiara Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop the self-esteem, confidence, and Irish Dance skills of each child in a positive environment where they will reach their full potential. We strive to instill a sense of unity and friendship among the dancers and their families through a variety of Irish cultural events and opportunities at Scoil Rince Ní Chiara.

About the School

Scoil Rince Ní Chiara (pronounced Skull Rinka Knee Keyrah) was founded in 2001 with just
fifteen students and has since grown to just over 100 students. We maintain a small class
size, which enables us to give each dancer personal attention and encouragement. The
class structure focuses on three disciplines of Irish Dance: solo, team and performance
dancing.

Our program offers dancers the opportunity to perform on stage in school recitals and public performances. Many of our dancers also travel to local and national competitions and we were proud to have our first dancer qualify for the World Championships in Ireland in 2003. Since then, we have had numerous dancers compete and place at the Mid-American Championships and the North American National Championships. At Scoil Rince Ní Chiara you choose the level of commitment that is right for you from competitions and performances to dancing for fun.

About the Director

The Director of Scoil Rince Ní Chiara, Muireann Ní Chiara, is originally from County
Tipperary, Ireland. Having completed a Masters Degree in Irish Dance at the University of
Limerick, Ireland, Muireann first came to the United States in 1999 to take the position of
Professor of World Dance at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Dancing since the age
of four, having competed numerous times in the World Championships, and having toured
with the well-known Irish Dance troupe Planxty O’Rourke, Muireann is a certified Irish Dance Teacher and Adjudicator with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (The Irish Dance Commision). Muireann also holds an Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music and Masters of Education from University College Cork, Ireland.
